Dear Members Countries of the World Federation of Rose Societies,
In these unprecedented times we all need something positive to focus on. Growing roses as we all know, is a wonderful hobby. And it offers so much more, by keeping us healthy and contributing to the well-being of our remarkable planet. Never before have we needed the camaraderie and friendship generated by worldwide rosarians, as we do now.
I have great pleasure to enclose the latest issue of ‘World Rose News’. Editor Steve Jones has conjured up another splendid edition which truly celebrates the sheer majesty of the rose and its devotees.
We take an inspirational tour around Odile Masquelier’s magnificent garden, which contains a treasure trove of exquisite old garden roses.
Kay Duncan celebrates the infinite charms of her Heritage Garden, which nestles in the heart of Australia’s Clare Velley. The rich diversity of the plantings will command any unsuspecting visitor’s undivided attention. It is the perfect destination for the tourist, and a must for next year’s Convention.
WFRS Vice Presidents, Inger Schierning and Diana Antonition present detailed reports from their regions, which include the baptism of new cultivars, the creation of new rosariums and how rosarians deal with the ravages caused by devastating hurricanes. Their positively is truly remarkable and testimony to their sheer resilience.
We are treated to an awe-inspiring itinerary for the 19th WFRS World Rose Convention being held in Adelaide, Australia during October 2022. The programme will include relaxing river cruises, exploring stunning botanic gardens, revelling in the dramatic sights of the Blue Mountains and feasting in the sheer pleasures that Australian and New Zealand roses bring. It’ll be a truly outstanding event befitting of the aims and aspirations of our wonderful organisation. For me personally, I cannot wait to attend as normal life gradually returns.
Enjoy!
With warmest regards,
Derek
